Is motherhood hormonal?
Yesterday someone told me that she got a special something to hold milk from flowing out during the months of breast-feeding.
But that’s not all. She said that oxytocin, the hormone that induces lactation is the main regulator of this process. Even thinking about the baby would increase the levels of this hormone, and induce lactation on the spot, and “I don’t want milk to be all over the place during the day”.
In fact, it turned out that oxytocin is not only the lactation hormone, but it was also dubbed, not so long ago, the love hormone… and “may influence our ability to bond with others”.
How much of our human relations are hormone-driven? And is maternal love so intense because it is… well, hormonal?

second..yes hormones control so many aspects of our behaviours and interactions..especially in women.
take PMS for example..now imagine you contradicting a PMSing woman.see what i'm saying?
and oxytocin has long been used for mating, and inducing labor..so it's a cool hormone :)
miss you honey
they should put it in the water... or probably not :)
hormones are the reason why i don't wake up in the morning but everybody keeps blaming me?! :(
Ghassan,
I prefer to keep the mother's love away from the sceintific terms of hormones, neurotransmitters etc....although I know I'm decieving myself. Well, love is still for me the most beautiful thing in our lives...
Rouba: this is laziness, not hormones! (miss AUH floor days...remember!)
who keeps deleting comments (do you think this blogspot is bugged?)
well, I meant motherly love at time when we are born is hormonal, later on, when you're older their love is more rational, sometimes not, and sometimes less..
I was wondering, could progesterone function as a mood elevator?
their love is beyond rational. it's hormonal and that's what makes it above fhather's love. it's a also intuitive and completely irrational at times.
the beauty of women is that they're irrational and hormone-driven in all their relationships :)
estrogen and progesterone combined treatments also act as anti-depressants when give to post-menopausal women
some women themselves are antidepressants....others are strong depressants...
