my favorite gun

Good attempt... but do you know what happens to the user of such a gun? Is it the law of nature to "kill or be killed"? Or is it just in our genes?

we would think twice before firing a gun like this..
(do you know where this picture's been taken?)

yes of course... UN.
and this is exactly what I meant. You would think twice before firing the gun... why?

because it might blow up in your face!
do you know this gun was a gift from which country?

which country?

I would guess who anonymous is if he/she knows.

Luxembourg. It is a replica of the first one created by the swedish artist Carl Reutersward. Anyway, I am sure anyone can find this information online.

I figured that everyone receieved this "twisted gun" picture with much positiveness. So I thought let's create a controversy... I certainly like this "peace symbol" because I think it is simple and cartoonist... But even Tom might blow up his face if he fires at Jerry... Well that might not be a problem at all for Tom, afterall, he always comes back (thanks to Tex Avery).

Apart from the symbolic interpretation, the only inhibition of using this gun is your own safety. So this symbol did not succeed in diverting the human nature from the "kill or be killed" moto. Certainly not for people who are frequent visitors of the UN! I am not sure how Carl was thinking when designing it. But I am pretty sure that the idea of not being able to use the gun for your own sake did occur to him.

Therefore, one may ask the following: Can a twisted gun be untwisted? Maybe we can untie the knot? Or maybe just cut the barrel right before?

The real problem is the existence of the gun. Is some sense, this represents the existence of our "killing" nature.

anonymous, have you ever been there?
did you take the picture of the gun perhaps? :)

I have been. I took a picture of the gun once. However, I accidentally reloaded the same film to take other pictures... I don't know how this happened, usually the film rewinds completely to the inside, but it happened... So I ended up with all kinds of "artistic" pictures... UN mixed with the empire state building, like a disguise you know ;) Maybe destiny did not want for this gun the glory of being in the picture? Don't know... Anyway, you can probably tell that this was a long time ago; otherwise, I would have used digital...

Have you ever watched the movie "Ana 3antar"? with Ghawwar El Tosheh (doured lahham) and Housni el Bourazan (nouhad kal3i)... Well Ghawwar is 3antar in that movie (not your usual Ghawwar) and he is a private detective... and he has a gun called
"mousaddas en arriere"...

Well basically it fires backward... But once you know the secret...

I almost figured you out. but now I'm at loss again.
no I haven't seen that one of ghawwar, I thought I've seen all of them. (ghawwar as 3antar, that'd be interesting:)
which year you took the doubly exposed pictures?

Anonymous said...

It was in the year 1994. But I am not to see it again until 2005. Accidentally!... Who would remember it is on 1st avenue and 40 something street? At that time, I did have a digital camera. How different can one be when coming back to the same spot 10 years later? is it just the camera? Well to partially answer that question, for some reason, I lost the interest of taking the picture again. It's one of those things that you don't do (or attempt to do) more than once I guess.

the statue was given to the UN in 1988... so it makes sense.
